A "sitter" simply monitors a senior. An ASASHC Guide is a motivated professional trained in our proprietary "Raised Bar" standards. They don't just watch; they engage. Whether it’s validation therapy for dementia or specialized advocacy for Veterans, our Guides are active participants in your loved one’s vitality and safety.
This is very common. We don't force ourselves in; we "bridge" the gap. We often start with Companion Care, where we focus on building a genuine friendship first. By respecting their autonomy and presenting our caregivers as "helpers for the small things," we earn their trust over time rather than imposing a clinical presence.
To ensure continuity and safety of care at all times, fail-safe backup protocol consists of universal access to care plans, designated primary and secondary caregivers, and on-call stand by coverage. Each client is assigned both a primary and secondary (backup) caregiver. The secondary caregiver is fully trained on the clients care plan and remains prepared to step in at any time. We ensure rapid response in the event of illness, emergencies, scheduling conflicts, or unforeseen absences.
Absolutely. We believe that seniors should remain in control of their own lives and decisions whenever possible. With few exceptions—such as advanced dementia or significant memory loss—our clients are fully empowered to direct their daily routines, preferences, and choices. Our role is not to take over, but to support. We are there to make life easier, provide assistance when needed, and respect each individual’s independence, dignity, and personal decisions at all times.
Regular quality checks and family updates ensure that our “Benchmark for Excellence” is consistently met. We maintain open communication with families and conduct ongoing evaluations of care so that any adjustments can be made quickly and thoughtfully. Most importantly, we stay alongside each member through the natural ups and downs of aging and recovery, providing steady support, guidance, and reassurance every step of the way.
We believe that to care for others well, a caregiver must feel cared for themselves. We don't just hire "employees"; we select individuals who see this as a mission. We provide mentorship through our Guide Model Program and foster a professional environment where they are respected as the vital "substitute family" they are.
Agencies fail when the people who take your check never see your loved one. At A Star Above, our founders and care managers stay personally involved. We perform regular, unannounced check-ins and maintain a constant "Circle of Communication" with the family to ensure the care plan in our office matches the reality in your home.
